About

Who is behind Craft Factor 9?

The mastermind behind the blog is Tim Goleman. It was a project I have been wanting to do since I bought the domain in January of 2015. Yes, that’s a long time since the domain was bought and the site launched. If we are counting it’s over 2 years.

I was a crafty kid when I was growing up. I always tried to have the best picture, craft or whatever we made. I specifically remember in 5th grade, we were making snowmen out of construction paper for the wall. The one I made in class was really bad, well I thought so at the time. I snuck the snowman out of class in my Trapper Keeper (yeah I’m dating myself) and took it home. The snowman got the attention and creativity he deserved. When brought back the next day I presented him when were to be finishing up the snowmen. Making it look like I was putting on the finishing touches when in fact it was done. One thing I was quite proud of was I made a corn cob pipe!

Also, during this time I would make 3D elements to my pictures. For instance, a Halloween picture would have a bench that came out of the picture. It was a signature of mine back in the day. In fact, I would even decorate our windows for a few years with my designs.

Flash forward to current day. Over the last few years, I haven’t been too crafty. But you never really lose it do you? I had the opportunity to work at Plaid Enterprises two times as a contract job. I rediscovered my love of being creative. I attempted Mod Podge, painting and more. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert but I do have a lot to learn. Painting, decoupage, and a lot more!

What is Craft Factor 9 about?

I’m a self-proclaimed nerd/geek. I want to mix my digital skills, love of geeky things and crafting all together. Sometimes they will all converge and other times it maybe one of those things. I want to use technology to help me craft and make amazing things. The geek size will come out in projects featuring Doctor Who, Start Trek, Star Wars, Firefly and more. The crafty side will come out in learning and teaching.

This blog is not about creating projects and leaving out steps or not including instructions. I want to share what I learn. Show you how I do a project and even show the fails. I think failing makes you do things better. I mean a craft fail is something we all have from time to time. I have had a few and will continue to have more. Plus, it’s a great way to have readers share how they fixed a similar craft fail.

If I ever leave a step out or a craft item. Let me know and I will correct the post and answer the question you have. I enjoy sharing with others. So feel free to contact me.

What inspires me in crafting?

There are many things.

  • Sock Monkeys – First, I am a self-proclaimed sock monkey addict. Well, not an addict I don’t have a problem collecting sock monkeys. I probably have about 20 monkeys and the collection keeps growing. There will be a few crafts every year inspired by sock monkies.
  • Wackyadoodle – Wacky things will find their way in too. Such as things like the Slumbering Alligator’s Faux Flamingo Taxidermy. OMG, I love that. It’s fun, funky and different. You have to have fun crafting or why do it.
  • Geometric – Geometric designs are awesome. I love the designs you can come up with out of straight lines. Who knew math could be fun.
  • Old Post Cards – I love old postcards. However, I hate to destroy them when crafting. I usually scan them in and use them rather than cut them up. One card I wish I would have gotten was a 1960’s aerial picture of Six Flags Over Georgia. When I went back to the store It was gone.
  • Maps – Anything to do with Maps. Old, new or abstract. Give me maps and let me come up with something fun with it. I have a few ideas I want to do and you will see them on this blog.
  • Photography – I love taking pictures and using those pics in my designs. Using apps to turn into HDR pictures, cartoons or paintings. I have taken some great pics and love to use them. This also gets around the copyright issue. I own them so I can do anything I want with them.

I will add more as I remember them. I had about three in my mind while writing this and completely forgot!

How will this blog be written?

Unlike some other blogs, I have done and worked on. This is the most personal to me. It shows one of my biggest strengths, creativity. It will be written in first person and the way I talk. Bad jokes and all. It’s who I am and some crafts maybe more adult language. Just and FYI.

Do you participate in Affiliate programs?

YES, two to start off with. The first is Amazon, I mean what craft blogger doesn’t use Amazon to drive traffic. Everything I use in my post will have a link to Amazon (if available). The next is Creative Market. I LOVE this site. Each week they have a series of free goods. But, they have amazing prices on WordPress themes, graphics, icons, backgrounds, fonts and more. I have used them on my projects for my business and for fun. I will only support brands I love and believe in.

Will there be more than crafting on the blog?

Possibly, I never say never. But from the start, I will be focused on blogging. I hope to do a few things with some craft experts I know. I also want to team up with other craft bloggers when I can to do some fun things. I have two I have reached out too and hope to work with more.

WHEW, that’s enough for now. If you want to get in touch with me. Use the contact form below!
